What does one of the top sports car brands do when it turns 60? As much as it can! This year, McLaren’s 60th anniversary includes three different events, helping to cap off this historic milestone for the automaker. Many Jupiter enthusiasts aren’t as familiar with McLaren as they are with many other brands, so here’s some background on the brand and an update on the 60 years of McLaren events.
McLaren was founded in 1963 by Bruce McLaren. Over the years, they’ve turned the brand into the second most successful team in the history of Formula 1 racing, second only to Ferrari – an incredible feat!
This year, McLaren will begin with a new team principal leading the way, along with a fresh new driver’s lineup. Australian rookie Oscar Piastri will join primary driver Lando Norris, who is entering his fifth season as a veteran F1 racer.
McLaren didn’t record their first victory until five years after the group’s inception. Currently, the brand is a well-known force, having accrued 12 championships and 8 constructors’ titles.
Their second upgrade includes a revamp of the technology center. The group tweeted, claiming to have transformed the home base, known as the McLaren Technology Center, or MTC, giving it a beautiful new facelift. Technically, this has been a year-long celebration, but who’s counting?
TUMI, a company specializing in high-end luggage for business and travel, recently unveiled a collaboration with Lando Norris. As a tribute to McLaren’s 60 years, TUMI released a limited-edition collection “in their signature Papaya with exclusive finishes,” with each piece meant to honor, in their words, “our renowned partner.”
McLaren has contracted the services of the Lego toymaker to help cap off its 60th birthday. The duo will release a rare double-pack Speed Champions set. This rare pack will include the classic 1995 McLaren F1 LM and the beautiful 2023 Solus GT.
The Lego kit will include 581 pieces in total, including two drivers fully adorned with the McLaren driving gear. Both vehicles will be featured in the Papaya Orange paint that made both vehicles so infamous in the first place. In fact, the Lego sets are so unique that the McLaren F1 LM features the central driving position and one-of-a-kind air vents capped over the wheel arches. The Solus GT even features the single-seat configuration and the massive rear wing – both 100% true to McLaren roots. There’s nothing saying you’ve made it like having a Lego made after your brand!
