On August 5th, the McLaren Formula 1 Team notified Daniel Ricciardo that, for the 2023 season, he will be replaced by the Australian Formula 2 champion, Oscar Piastri. Piastri is a renowned up-and-comer who’s made a name for himself as a rising star on the F2 Alpine team. Learn more about the team’s decision below. Then, apply for financing and explore the latest lineup of McLaren models at McLaren Palm Beach.

Why is Oscar Piastri Replacing Daniel Riccardo?

Rumors abounded that Oscar Piastri was set to join the official Renault-owned Alpine team for his first season in Formula 1. In fact, Piastri had been given a contract but outright rejected after receiving an offer from the McLaren Formula 1 team. McLaren was so passionate about signing Piastri, that they fired Daniel Ricciardo despite the fact that Ricciardo’s contract is still good. This may result in the McLaren Formula 1 team having to continue paying Daniel Ricciardo throughout the rest of his contract, which is to say that McLaren must be really excited to have Oscar Piastri on the team! And just in case you were wondering, Oscar Lando Norris is set to remain with McLaren through at least 2025!
