Growing Up a McLaren

So, who is Amanda McLaren? As mentioned earlier, she was just four when her father passed away in 1970 while testing out his latest model, the MD8, on the Goodwood circuit in England. Her mother, Patricia, did everything she could to protect her daughter from the tragedy. Amanda may have been robbed of time with her father, but he left quite a presence. She grew up surrounded by a massive library of motoring books and developed a passion for F1 racing and automotive engineering at a young age.

Representing Her Family’s Legacy

Amanda McLaren grew up in New Zealand where she obtained an MA in Nursing from Auckland University. She began training as a nurse in London, but she was left injured by a horse-riding accident. From there, she moved back to New Zealand and toured the country in a Daihatsu Charade. She then met her husband, Stephen, and together they ran a farm in the countryside. It wasn’t until 2014 that Amanda McLaren returned to Woking, England to become a brand ambassador for the McLaren Technology Group. Today, she’s a refreshingly unpretentious spokesperson for McLaren, working to further clarify the brand’s identity and vision by connecting its past to its future!
